Therapy?

2000-03-02

London Astoria

This I think would've been for the Suicide Pact...You First album. As always with Therapy?, it's a bit of a mixed bag but the boys know what the fans want and mix in plenty of highlights from their other records.

Most notable about this time was that lead singer and guitarist Andy Cairns was turning a bit strange. He wasn't doing interviews anymore, he'd grown a big mop of hair and bushy beard and was leaving all the talking to Michael McKeegan.

This had carried into the live shows. While he continued to sing, he left all the between-song banter to McKeegan. And whenever they did a song from the classic Troublegum album he would throw the mic (stand and all) into the audience to sing the songs themselves leading to ridiculous results.

Now ordinarily this would be quite irritating but Cairns went through the show with such infectious wide eyed, muppet like enthusiasm that he managed to pull it off. Great stuff.
