The Divine Comedy

1999-01-16

Brixton Academy

After seeing The Divine Comedy at V97 I was rather keen to see them again. Luckily the new album they were promoting was pretty good as well.

I think Woody suggested this gig because Mark Eitzel was the support act, someone he's seen more often than his own mother. Anyway, from previous reports I was expecting Eitzel to be a bit inconsistent but he turned out to be too consistent with all the songs merging into one.

The Divine Comedy started in dramatic fashion with a quick blast of several songs from the last forty years and then launching into their own set. There weren't many surprises but it was satisfying, if only to see them in a large venue.
