EBTG had gone all drum and bass and people who wouldn't know Goldie from the Blue Peter dog were complaining that they weren't 'authentic'. I've always liked bands who weren't scared to experiment and take on other types of music, and was even more thankful that EBTG weren't swaggering around like Kevin and Perry in a mid-life crisis.
While this was never going to be an exciting gig there was no faulting their ability to play and sing beautifully. I was also quite pleased to see Danny Thompson there on bass who had played with many greats like Nick Drake and Richard Thompson.
I remember that I bought these tickets off the ex-boyfriend of my girlfriend of the time for her birthday. Which somehow made perfect sense at the time but seems very odd now.
