The Lightening Seeds

Kilburn National

The Kilburn National had been a great venue and a favorite with many punters. It was especially popular with me because it was only a mile down the road from where I lived. Anyway, this was first time I'd been here after its refurbishment and it was horrible. It had been designed like a tacky, bright white night club and the stage swallowed the band.

Actually, that was a blessing with the first band. It was Babybird, and it was before they had a number one hit with the hugely irritating You're Gorgeous. In case you're wondering their whole act was very dull and I would have forgotten all about them if it wasn't for the fact that that bloody song drove me nuts a few months later.

I like the Lightning Seeds but I wasn't all that keen to see them. I thought that what ever they played on stage was going to be indescernable from the CDs at home and that Ian Broudie, while probably a very nice chap, would be a charisma free zone. I wasn't wrong. They were efficent but dull.
