Beck
1994-11-28London Astoria

I've never seen so many lumberjack shirts as I did at this gig. I even took to singing Monty Python's Lumberjack Song between swigs of beer. I guess they were going for the whole slacker / log cutting image that was so popular at the time.
I'm never quite sure what to make of Beck. I really like the Mellow Gold album for the way it managed to be stupid and clever at the same time but disliked Odelay for it's complete lack of soul, passion or anything resembeling life. Yeah I know, nobody agrees with me.
This gig was a mix of those two extremes. Sometimes he seemed too engrossed in what he was doing on stage which seperated him too much from the audience. At other times he was getting the crowd involved, he even passed a mic out into the audience and jammed with a guy doing a human beatbox.
Incidently his whole band were fat South Americans which I guess was meant to be kind of wacky or something. Ho-hum.
