The Jesus Lizard

My friend Simon had played me a few Jesus Lizard CDs in the past but I had absolutely no intention of seeing them. The reason I ended up going to this one was because me and Simon were doing a trade: I'd endure Jesus Lizard with him and in return he'd endure Killing Joke with me because nobody else we knew would go to these gigs with us. As it turns out Killing Joke were dissapointing due to an appaling mix but that's another story.
The first strange thing about this gig was that there were bugger all people there in a venue that usually holds about 2,000. The second thing was the awful support band from Japan who I can only commend on their two drummers. The drummers weren't any good but two drumkits always looks really cool. I can't remember the name of the band, which is a deliberate decision.
The Jesus Lizard on the other hand were a revelation. The music which previously didn't make much sense on CD now seemed rather more fascinating. The singer, David Yow, was a man possesed throwing himself into the crowd without missing a beat, crawling around the stage, getting his dick out and just generally behaving like the village idiot. Fantastic.
Oh yeah, the third strange thing about this gig was it was the only time I've ever seen female stage divers. Strange because I think more women should indulge in this noble art form.
