This was only the second 'proper' gig I'd been to. Being the rebelious 14 year old that I was at the time I asked my parents if I could go. My mum said yes but only if she came along as well. I hoped this experience might put her off making similar stipulations in future, but in the end this nearly put me off gigs for life. They were appalling.
Rather better news was the first support act called Kitchens of Distinction who managed to avoid world domination by having the worst band name since Dumpy's Rusty Nuts. They were great live and I later found that they were magnificent on record.
As a side note, I met Bjork once. There used to be a EuroBeat2000 night at Camden Underworld and she turned up there. I was rather the worse for drink so I walked over to her at the bar and said something like 'I really liked your last record' which was a blatant lie. She replied that she didn't speak english very well. I muttered a few other things. She muttered that she still didn't speak english very well. I then decided I should probably just stick to the drinking.
Shortly after that meeting she began a solo career that made me wish she didn't speak english at all.
